thinking up story ideas

my wife runs at me with hatchet
but it’s a quiet scream
almost a purr of
i do not dodge her
but take on
a football stance
i flick the brim of my fedora
and take a cool
knowing if she had true intent,
i would
not have the time to do anything
but say
‘oh no’

i lie of course
my wife is not charging at me
i am alone
sitting in the living room
listening to
talk radio and thinking
of interesting
to write about
in short

anyone could write a novel
but i would rather
take laziness
to a whole other
and condense it down into
not great poetry

but readable
