A Couple of Players

we
both smoke,
we’re
smokers, we’re smokin’
always
walkin’ away from
one
another, or sometimes
caught,
leaning on one
or the
others
shoulder.

pep talks

late at night
hovered
over the desk
or
out on the sidewalk
so
many feet away
from public
access

gotta smoke babe?

it’s required in
this
line of work,
cuts the stress before
going into a
situation – after
you and me
partners babe
breaking
doors and hearts
and ready
for the next
job if
it pays well enough

in the mean time

smoke ’em if you got ’em
