morning urge

get up and write
the
way you might
get up
and smoke a cigarette
get up and write
the way you might
get up
and make coffee
get up
get up
get up

sit down

open lap top
sibling to type writer
grand child to
paper and pen

get up

go to the bathroom first
-there are some things that still trump
the dialogue

sit down

read while you wait
or

stand up

and don’t lose the idea while you listen to the
sound of chimes

sit down(again)

lift up your hands to the board
and write
write
write

while the house
while the apartment
while the rooming house
while the ymca
while the sidewalk
while under the bridge

is all still very quiet.

About Crazy Irishman

Touted as a working man's poet, Martin Durkin has been writing professionally for the last 12 years. He has appeared in over twenty anthologies across North America, including, "And left a place to stand on", a collection of poems and essays about the late great Al Purdy. Over the past 4 years, Durkin has been on hiatus for the most part but has recently come back to the poetry scene creating a poetry site called crazyirishman.wordpress.com, where in the past year he has written over 100 poems and created a cross over page on https://www.facebook.com/crazyirishmanpoetry where he gives a story behind each of the pieces written.
